Saan Valley Trek Jaipur: Location, Distance, Timing & Complete Guide

18 Oct 2026

The Saan Valley trek is one of Jaipur's most loved sunrise treks — and one of the most searched (people also type it as Shan Valley, San Valley or Sang Valley). Nestled in the Aravalli range on the Amer side of the city, the valley is known for butterfly-filled trails, rocky ridges and spectacular sunrise and sunset views.

  • Start time: around 4:30 am
  • Distance: about 10 km ride to the base + 3–4 km of trekking
  • Total time: 3–4 hours
  • Difficulty: moderate — rocky sections and some steep bits
  • Best season: October to February, and post-monsoon when the valley is green

Where is Saan Valley?

Saan Valley lies in the hills north of Jaipur, on the Natata–Kukas side beyond Amer, sitting between Aravalli ridges. From Jal Mahal it's roughly a 10 km ride to the trek base. There's no public transport to the base at that hour, so you'll need your own two-wheeler or car — on our treks everyone rides together from the meeting point.

Tip: if you're searching "Saan Valley Jaipur location" on maps, pins vary because it's a valley rather than a single spot. It's easiest to come to the group meeting point and ride in together.

What the trek is like

You start in the dark with torches and climb along a rocky trail as the sky lightens. The reward is the sunrise breaking over layers of Aravalli hills, with the valley below. After the monsoon the slopes turn green and the trail is full of butterflies. The walk back is easier, and most groups are back in the city by 8:30–9 am.

What to carry

  • Comfortable trekking shoes with good grip
  • A water bottle (1 litre or more)
  • A small backpack
  • Fully covered, comfortable clothes
  • A torch or phone light for the pre-dawn start
  • Check the weather the night before and dress for it

Rules on our Saan Valley treks

  • Do not litter in the mountains.
  • Smoking and liquor are strictly prohibited.
  • No sharp objects, no profanity, and respect for everyone in the group.
  • Follow the trek leader's instructions at all times — they're there for your safety.
  • You trek at your own risk; you should be in good physical condition for a moderate climb.

Is Saan Valley good for beginners?

Yes, if you're reasonably fit and go with a group. It's rated moderate because of the rocky, uneven sections, not because of the length. If it's your very first trek and you're unsure, start with an easier trail — see our guide to the best treks near Jaipur.
